I measure the progress of my students through regular examinations of the internationally recognized Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate Program, a comprehensive system of music study and assessment from Elementary through to Advanced levels. rcmusic.com At each level of the program, I assign my students repertoire commensurate with each student’s ability and set appropriate goals as they progress through the program. Engaging with the RCM program, considered in many countries as the gold standard for developing high-calibre musical literacy, I provide my students with a systematic framework for nurturing their creativity and developing their self-confidence as they are rewarded for their efforts. Not only are exams offered in violin performance, but also in written form to measure the student’s theoretical knowledge of musical principles which I believe to be an indispensable basis for any musician. The theory exams are also graded and assess the student’s knowledge of musical notation, harmony, counterpoint, analysis and history.
After an initial free consultation with prospective students, I offer instruction for beginners to advanced levels. In addition to offering my students participation in the RCM examinations which are scheduled twice yearly, I also organize several performance events in which students can practice their performance skills, take part in competitions, and socialize with fellow students. If a student is interested in playing in a group, I also encourage them to enroll in classes at the Frost School of Music’s Preparatory Department.
